Tin Tabernacle celebrates 125 years

In 2005, The Bury Society was among several groups that helped to preserve this unusual building, which was in real danger of demolition. This building is part of our history. The Bury Society paid for the galvanised sheeting on the new roof of this grade 2 listed building.

Move forward to May 31st , 2025 and the Bury St. Edmunds Seventh-day Adventist Church—affectionately known as The Little Green Church or The Tin Tabernacle—celebrated its 125th anniversary of its historic building with a weekend of special celebrations. The theme for the weekend was “Honouring the Past, Celebrating the Present, Building the Future.” Martyn Taylor, Chair of the Bury Society CIO attended as part of the celebrations.

The anniversary brought together church members, former pastors, guests, and friends for a full programme of worship, music, history, and fellowship. Renowned local historian Martyn Taylor opened the afternoon programme with an engaging talk on the building’s origins and legacy. Former pastors, including Pastor David West, Pastor Claude Lombard, and the South England Conference director of Media and Communication, Pastor Sorin Petrof, reflected on the church’s spiritual heritage and shared powerful messages about legacy, mission, and community.

In addition to worship services and church-led initiatives, the Bury St. Edmunds Seventh-day Adventist Church building also serves as a valuable space for community meetings and activities hosted by other organisations. Its welcoming atmosphere and central location make it a trusted venue for local groups to gather, share ideas, and support one another. This ongoing use reflects the church’s commitment to being a hub of connection, service, and inclusion within the wider community.

The celebration was a joyful milestone and a reminder that faith, compassion, and community are timeless values still transforming lives today. The church continues to open its doors to all who seek connection, support, and emotional and spiritual growth.
