Thursday September 12: All day excursion to Saffron Walden
We visited the Fry Art Gallery, Bridge End Gardens and then had a guided tour of the town which included the castle and the church.
Thursday August 22: Talk on Earl’s Summerhouse, Ickworth
This was offered to members free because of the support of the Alfred Williams Charitable Trust
Tuesday June 4: Full day excursion to Blickling Hall
This included the National Trust Textile Conservation Studio. The visit was very popular and fully booked
February 10, 2024 : The Winter Lunch
Southgate Community Centre was the venue for the lunch and a talk on ‘Table Manners’ by Catherine Buchanan
November 10 : Local Knowledge Quiz
This popular quiz was hosted by John Saunders and Martyn Taylor, at the Catholic Church Crypt from 7pm.
October 21 : Autumn Coffee Morning
Our Autumn Coffee Morning at the United Reformed Church on Whiting Street. A photo quiz added to the attractions of spectacular cakes and some savoury snacks to go with the tea and coffee.
September 7 : Visit to St Albans and the De Havilland Museum
An excursion to St Albans to enjoy a guided tour of this town, with many similarities to our own, and a visit to the museum showing The Mosquito, The Comet and so much more about De Havilland.
June 8 : The Bury Society CIO A.G.M.
This year the A.G.M. was held at The Guildhall. Steve Ruthen gave a talk on ‘The Greene Family, their local and National legacy’.
May 18 : Visit to Jordan’s Mill & Wrest Park
A coach trip to Jordan’s Mill to find out about the milling process and enjoy their café, followed by a visit to the English Heritage site at Wrest Park with its house and gardens.
April 15 : Spring Coffee Morning
A get together at the United Reformed Church, including a look at the new leaflet on The Abbey of St Edmund.
March 11, 2023 : A Countryman’s East Anglia
A free talk by Richard Hawking on writer and farmer Adrian Bell, on Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding countryside. We were joined by Adrian’s son Martin Bell.
February 18, 2023 : Winter Lunch
Three course lunch with guest speaker Charles Garland who talked on ‘Dad’s Army – The Nation’s Favourite Comedy’.

A chance to try out the Poppy Line Railway, but not quite what we had planned due to ‘circumstances beyond our control’.
July 7, 2022 : Trip to Diss and Earsham Hall
Our first coach trip for quite a while – for obvious reasons. We visited Diss and the newly refurbished Corn Hall, then went on for a guided tour of Earsham Hall followed by afternoon tea.
June 9, 2022 : Annual General Meeting
Our first face to face AGM in a while. We celebrated the new CIO and bade farewell to the old organisation. Martyn Taylor gave a slideshow talk on 50 years of the Bury Society.
April 23, 2022 : Coffee Morning
At the United Reformed Church in Whiting Street where coffee and cakes were served. A photo quiz also gave members and friends something to puzzle over.
