Planning Update November 2022

The Bury Society’s previous Planning Officer was Rod Rees. Sadly, Rod passed away earlier this year. He is greatly missed by us all.

We have been lucky to secure the help of Richard Summers as Interim Planning Officer until a replacement can be found.

Consultations by West Suffolk Council

Preferred Options Consultation on the West Suffolk Local Plan

The Bury Society’s comments on the West Suffolk Local Plan were submitted online in July.  No reply has yet been received to requests for an open meeting for Bury Society members and for a joint consultation meeting with the Heritage Partnership, BWMG and RLCP.

New West Suffolk Hospital DC/22/0593/HYB

Second revision of proposals with detailed amendments to transport and landscape plans.

Hybrid planning application comprising an outline application for means of access for a new hospital and a full planning application for change of use of Hardwick Manor from a single house to health related uses associated with the new hospital.

Bury Society comment: “Thank you for consulting the Bury Society on the second round of revised proposals for the New West Suffolk Hospital.  We think that the detailed revisions to the transport and the landscape plans will further enhance the original proposals which we supported at the time.”

Note: West Suffolk Hospital has notified the Bury Society that its outline planning application for a new hospital was approved by West Suffolk Council on 30 November.  A Section 106 Planning Agreement (planning obligations) is now being negotiated and the new hospital is on target to be completed by the end of the decade.  This decision does not yet appear on the West Suffolk Planning Website.

Revised Plans for Cornhill Walk

Recently revised plans to address the main issues with previous schemes and now including several welcome new features.

Bury Society comment: “Thank you for consulting the Bury Society on revised proposals for Cornhill Walk at a face-to-face meeting in the summer and again by your more recent e-mail link to your website.  The Bury Society Trustees are generally content with the revised plans for Cornhill Walk.  The massing and building heights are now much more sympathetic to the surrounding townscape.  The Trustees are pleased to see the more domestic scale and detailing of the elevations to Well Street and Short Brackland and also the introduction of a central glazed atrium facing the Butter Market axis which we suggested.”

Note: Knightspur Homes have recently notified the Bury Society that a revised planning application for the redevelopment of Cornhill Walk is “imminent”.  This application does not yet appear on the West Suffolk Planning Website.
