Planning Update, November 2020

The Society responded to several applications in October and November and these are summarised here.

The Society also wrote in support of an application to convert the former Ashtons Solicitors offices at 81 Guildhall Street and the plans were approved. However, we considered that plans for a four-storey building on the former used car site on Tayfen Road represented overdevelopment and the application was refused.

We commented upon detailed design of an infill garage and flat on St Andrews Street South and we noted that change of use was approved for conversion of hair salon (and former post office) into residential use at 12 Churchgate Street. We also noted application for change of use of Whitworths Architects’ offices into a dwelling at 18 Hatter Street.

Meanwhile, the Society’s Rail Station Group reported that work is planned for a Conservation Management Plan – hopefully to include the water tower and signal box. Refurbishment work on the station master’s house continues and is due to complete very shortly. Work on the new access for the northern side of the station, and the changes to the entrance hall, are programmed to complete by autumn 2022.
