What We Do
The Bury St Edmunds Society was formed in 1971 by a group of people concerned about the town and its future. That concern was prompted by a proposal to tear down St John's Street and redevelop the area in modern style.
Their success shaped our aim which is to ensure that, whilst Bury St Edmunds continues to grow and prosper, it remains a beautiful town in which to live and work, or visit. We shall best achieve this and other work by continuing to increase our membership and by maintaining our good working relationships with the Bury Town Trust, the Bury Heritage Trust, the Suffolk Preservation Society, the local authorities and Civic Voice. The Bury Society is a registered charity (number 263230) and is largely dependent on subscriptions from its members to support its activities. We have also received various bequests and gifts over the years. We do not receive any funding from the public purse.
Bury in Bloom
Bury in Bloom is one of the Society's sub-committees which is specifically concerned with floral decoration in and around the town.
Bury in Bloom is your local campaign dedicated to promoting a greener, cleaner and more beautiful Bury St Edmunds. It celebrated its 25th birthday last year. The Bury in Bloom team has been amazingly successful over this time in bringing home countless awards from regional, national and even international 'In Bloom' competitions. In 2010 a Gold Award in our regional – Anglia – competition, and Silver Gilt in the prestigious RHS Britain in Bloom campaign were achieved. Visit website ...
